THE PLAINS, Virginia – August 2021 – Five Rings Eventing is excited to announce the Saturday line up at the MARS EQUESTRIAN™ Great Meadow International (MARSGMI) in The Plains, VA taking place on August 19-22, 2021. MARSGMI is a high-performance three-day eventing competition held annually at the Great Meadow Foundation in The Plains, Virginia.
Preliminary show jumping kicks off the morning at 8am. Watch these brave horses tackle the painted poles in the beautiful Fleming Farm Arena.
Need a break from the action? Visit the vendors at Meadow Market. From the Snazzy Fox to VTO Saddlery, there is something for everyone.
Jim Wofford of Fox Covert Farm returns for his popular cross country course walk. The course walk will start on Saturday at 10:30am at the main water complex on the racecourse. Walk up to some of the signature cross country complexes and hear about how Jim thinks the horse and rider combinations might navigate the obstacles.
Stay and watch the preliminary cross country on the racecourse, starting at 11:30am. Or, come back to the Fleming Farm Arena to watch the CCI3* show jumping, which starts at 12:15pm.
Ready for a bite to eat? Enjoy amazing BBQ from Big Mike’s Food Truck or sample some wine from Slater Run Winery.
DJ Snowhite kicks off in the early afternoon with her signature housemusic. You can also find DJ Snowhite every Sunday afternoon at Virginia United Polo Sunday Polo right here at Great Meadow on the Sheila Johnson polo field. The 4* show jump commences at 3:30pm and goes right into the evening.

About Jim Wofford
Wofford was a successful eventing competitor until his retirement in 1986. He was on the 1968, 1972, and 1980 Olympic teams, winning two Team Silver medals, and one individual Silver medal. He also competed in the 1970 and 1978 World championships, winning Bronze individual and team medals. Widely sought after as a clinician and coach, Wofford is equally well known as an author. His first book, TRAINING THE 3-DAY EVENT HORSE AND RIDER, is now back in print after selling out the first print run, while his second book, GYMNASTICS: SYSTEMATIC TRAINING OF THE JUMPING HORSE has been revised and reprinted. Two other books, TAKE A GOOD LOOK AROUND, and 101 EVENTING TIPS, are still in print. His CROSS-COUNTRY WITH JIM WOFFORD, is now widely available as is his biography, STILL HORSE CRAZY AFTER ALL THESE YEARS. In addition, he writes a regular column for Practical Horseman, the largest monthly periodical in the U.S. dedicated to “English” riding.
